Dr. Maher Chebbo

Maher Chebbo is currently Vice President, Head of EMEA Utilities, Communications and Services Industries as well as Deputy Head of all EMEA Sectors at SAP. Maher joined SAP 16 years ago, in 1996, where he co-founded its Corporate In-Venturing Unit (SAP Inspire) in 2003 and where he held various responsibilities as a Regional Business Unit Manager, Executive Advisor and Director of Innovation. Maher is member of the Chairman of DigitalEurope, SmartGrids incl. Smart Cities group Chairman of ETP SmartGrids Demand, Metering & Retail Group, Member of the Advisory Group of ICT Infrastructure for energy-efficient buildings and neighborhoods, Member of the Board of EEGI, the SmartGrids Task Force Committee and the CEN-CENELEC-ETSI M490 Committee, Member of the Board of REEEP (Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership), Member of the Executive Board of ARMINES (50 R&D Labs of Ecole des Mines de Paris) and Deputy President of ESMIG. Maher co-founded a German Renewable startup and, before joining SAP, led at Cap Gemini the Power & Communication industries for 6 years. Maher, today with a broad 360° professional background, held an Engineer and a PhD Energy degree from Ecole des Mines de Paris in 1990 as well as a BA in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and investments.


Chris King
Chairman – Smart Energy Demand Coalition (SEDC)

Chris King is President, Strategic Consulting at eMeter, a Siemens Business, and Chairman of the Smart Energy Demand Coalition based in Brussels, Belgium. He is responsible for strategic activities, including market analysis and product strategy, and policy, working with regulators and legislators worldwide.  Mr. King is also a director of the Demand Response and Smart Grid Coalition, the Association for Demand Response and Smart Grid, and the U.S. Demand Response National Action Plan Coalition.  He has 30 years of experience in smart meter policy and regulatory affairs, working for electric utilities, competitive retailers, and technology companies.  Mr. King, who has testified before the U.S. Congress, holds advanced degrees in science and business from Stanford University and a law degree from Concord Law School.


Susana Bañares Hernández
Head of the Demand Side Management Department – Red Eléctrica de España

Susana Bañares Hernández is industrial engineer from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and from the École Nacional Supérieur des Arts et Métiers (ENSAM) in Paris. She has developed her career entirely in the power sector participating and developing national and international projects related to the liberalization of the electricity sector, electricity markets and power system operation. In 2003 she joined the international area within Red Eléctrica de España, where she participated in international projects related to the development of transmission network and system operation. Since 2007 she is the Head of the Demand Side Management Department which mission is to promote demand side management strategies in the system operation, in order to achieve a more efficient use of energy resources and an increased participation of demand.


Dr. Thiemo Gropp
Director – DESERTEC Foundation

Dr. Thiemo Gropp has studied physics and holds a Ph. D. in biochemistry at Universities of Karlsruhe, Tucson(Arizona) and Frankfurt / Main. He also holds a diploma and completed his Ph.D. Thesis at the Max-Planck-Institute of Biophysics in Frankfurt / Main. Since more than 10 years, he has been a manager, founder, managing director and board member in various biotechnology and consulting companies. Since 2009, he co-founded and is an active member of DESERTEC Foundation and since 2010 he holds the position of Director there.


Bertram Weiss
Project Leader, Smart Energy Centre – VERBUND 

Mr. Bertram Weiss focuses on the subject of Smart Energy at VERBUND, which lies on the further development of the energy system concerning decentralized generation and storage options as well as the subject of demand side management for consumers in households and businesses.  He holds his diploma in Agricultural Engineering and Water Management at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna, Austria.


Konstantin Faller
Consulting and Interimsmanagement

Mr. Konstantin Faller is an independent expert operating in the area of energy consultancy and interim management. He was formerly in the top management of Vattenfall. He holds a degree in Energy and Environmental Management from the Technische Universität Berlin.


Bob Hebb
System Services Development Manager – ELIA Group

Mr. Bob Hebb is responsible for the development of new ancillary products and the development of balancing mechanisms in Belgium at ELIA Group.  He holds a degree in Commercial Engineering from the University of Hasselt.


Jørgen Christensen
CTO – Dansk Energi

Jørgen S. Christensen is the CTO of Danish Energy Association and he has worked with R&D within the Danish power sector the last 18 year. Jørgen is involved on management level on several Smart Grid R&D both on national and international level. Jørgen is also the national representative in the governing boards of CIRED and CIGRÈ and is presently a member of the CIGRÈ Steering committee. The Danish Energy Association is a commercial and professional organisation for Danish energy companies. The Danish Energy Association takes care of its member companies’ interests and thus works to improve conditions and competition among these companies in order to ensure development, growth and well-being in Denmark.


Rolf Bienert
Technical Director – OpenADR Alliance

Rolf Bienert is the Technical Director of the OpenADR Alliance. In this capacity, Rolf oversees the technical developments and the certification program of the Alliance. Previously Rolf was the Technical Manager for Telecom and the Global Competence Center for emerging communication protocols at a major testing firm. In this role, Rolf was involved in many international standardization efforts and guided the company’s efforts in these areas. Rolf has been an active member of the NIST SGTCC, OpenADR Alliance, USNAP Alliance, SunSpec Alliance, ZigBee Alliance, and other organizations driving the development of new technologies with a specific focus on certification and interoperability. Rolf also held managing roles in several industry alliances before. He has a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering focused on Telecommunications.
